  1. Late Spring Notes from Tarki:
    Birds:
We did not see as many water migratory birds as in the past. No grebes, only two loons (but they stayed for quite awhile) and fewer geese. From our dock we only saw one family of ducklings and no goslings. The great blue continue to fly over every morning, but no green heron yet. Lots of songbirds including an oriole. Earlier in the spring we had a mature eagle visit our front porch, but have only seen the immature eagle since then. Lots of hummingbirds, downy woodpeckers, goldfinch and nuthatch around the feeders.
    Fish:
There were two long strands of yellow perch eggs that seemed to have hatched well! The only other fish sightings were several dead pan fish around the second week of June. The carp, of course, are easily seen along the shoreline.
    Plants:
Lots of cardinal flowers this year. Joe has had to work hard to weed out the maple seedlings. There are still plenty of yellow iris, but only one blue flag. No noticeable weeds yet.
    Insects:
We had fewer army-tent caterpillars, but still too many for comfort. The lower swath of trees along Song Mountain look eaten up from our view.
I hope this entry will inspire others to add comments and look forward to reading them.
